Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sydney, Australia

Process

I had an initial coding challenge after the recruiter screen. This was a live coding session where I shared my screen with a senior software developer who seemed completely disinterested and unmotivated. He clearly wasn't enjoying his job whatsoever and hated the fact that Atlassian has huge tech debt in their on-prem offering, which he has to deal with, while all the cool kids work on new cloud products.

Good, but no longer great

Senior Software Engineer • Current Employee

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Pros: Great compensation and benefits for Australia. Flexible and remote working. Fair amount of autonomy in what you work on and how.

Cons: The company is moving further and further away from its values, primarily because of new hires in senior management. Work-life balance can be difficult to maintain due to the need to collaborate with teams and customers in other time zones. There is compensation inequality between different states, despite doing the same work as colleagues.
