Process

The interview process begins with basic Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) questions over the phone, asked by a recruiter. Subsequently, you'll be invited to the site for a three-hour interview with three engineers. Each engineer will spend an hour assessing your skills in C++, OOP design, standard algorithms, and IQ/EQ.

For C++, the questions are not exceptionally difficult if you have solid practical experience. However, it's advisable to review your knowledge beforehand. Be prepared to write code on the spot. If you have programming experience, don't be overly concerned; these questions are designed to gauge your actual coding abilities rather than to challenge you excessively.

Mentally prepare to devise OOP solutions for geometry-related questions. Again, these are not particularly difficult. Apply common sense and your OOP experience. You should be able to navigate these with some assistance from the interviewer. The key isn't necessarily finding the perfect solution in the shortest time. Instead, prioritize articulating your thought process, engaging with the interviewer, and making progress in the discussion. Demonstrating how you think is more important than the solution itself. However, presenting a solution with a clear thought process would be ideal.

Finally, expect questions on standard algorithms, IQ, and EQ. Remain relaxed and do your best.

In summary, answering all questions is beneficial, but ultimately, luck plays a role, along with factors beyond your control:

  • The ratio of open positions to candidates, and the strength of your competitors. A higher ratio means a better chance of being hired.
  • Whether you happen to know the answers to the specific questions asked. Sometimes it's simply a matter of luck, as no one can know everything.
  • The interviewers' interpretation of your strengths is also a significant factor.

Questions

For a junior position, you should really know one programming language quite well (if not C++).

For a senior position, your programming language skills should be solid, and problem-solving skills should be relatively impressive.
