Process

Originally approached by hiring manager prior to any interview stages. Discussed current contracts and potential interest in working with Bank of America and declared an interest in moving to the next stages. Arranged a time a week or so later.

Pretty straightforward on-site split into two stages. I was interviewing for a junior role so definitely wasn't expecting anything shocking, although it's easy to get caught off guard.

First section was a more personal run-through, discussing motivations and general personality assessment questions, like a time when you faced a challenge, etc. School, college background, previous experiences. This portion was fairly light, and both interviewers were relaxed and understanding. Although I did encroach on a topic that almost raised an eyebrow, and this was entirely my fault as I was driving the discussion. Important to remember not to talk about things you aren't fully sure of or are perhaps a little uncomfortable with.

Second stage was a technical stage. Quite straightforward, covering a simple algorithm using pseudo-code and a slightly more complex problem around navigating a character through a Cartesian plane. Essentially a straightforward two-dimensional array with some rules around types of movements and restrictions on boundary movements. Think Snake! Led on to some theory-based questions around RESTful APIs, HTTP, and system design.

Finally, the portion of the technical section was some fairly straightforward SQL questions covering types of joins and expected outcomes of using LEFT, INNER, FULL OUTER, etc. Very straightforward and nothing that a little bit of homework on database queries won't help with.

Overall, a straightforward process and nothing too intensive.
