Data Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

The interview process begins with a HackerRank screening test, followed by a manager screening interview. The actual interview consists of four levels: three technical rounds and one manager round.

Do not apply if you are over 35. I was reminded multiple times that I was the most senior candidate for the job.

The role is advertised as a Data Engineer position requiring Big Data Technologies. However, the team actually uses Sybase products.

Do not apply if you do not have the required skillset. Additionally, people on the team seem to have an aversion to anything Spark or Big Data related, even though these skills were mentioned in the job requirements.

It appears the requirements were plagiarized from a Silicon Valley company without specifying what is actually needed.

Watch out for "gotcha" technical questions from the managers. Even if you clear the technical rounds, the manager rounds are what truly matter.

I exchanged 19 emails with HR. He did not call me once during the two-month process. The company did not send a rejection email until I asked for one.
