Process

I applied for the "Senior Machine Learning Engineer" role via a LinkedIn advertisement.

Within a few days, my recruiter contacted me, and the process began.

  1. Phone Screen: The recruiter did not ask technical questions but inquired about me and my current experience.

  2. Code Exercise: I had two options: a one-hour online pairing session or a one-week code assignment. I chose the code assessment, as I am not a fan of "LeetCode"-style testing. The recruiter kindly shared the assessment criteria and tips for success.

  3. Interviews: After passing the code assessment, I was invited for a day-long series of interviews. My recruiter also provided tips for these interviews.

Square's hiring interview process is the best I've experienced among companies in Australia.

Overall, my experience with the hiring process was that Square actively tried to help me perform my best and pass the interviews, rather than ambushing me with unexpected questions.

All interviewers were nice and kind.

I did not perform well in one of the interviews but still received an offer. This further supports my belief that Square aims to help candidates succeed in the hiring process, rather than setting a strict bar solely to filter them out.
