Process

I went through a three-round interview process with Boeing for a position in Gothenburg: a phone screening, a live interview, and a coding test.

From the start, they were fully aware that I live in Malmö, yet they still had me travel over three hours—twice—only to reject me the day after my final test for vague and unconvincing reasons.

The job posting explicitly stated that candidates must live in the immediate area, but despite residing in Malmö, I made it clear from the beginning that I was fully willing and able to be on-site at least three days a week, in full compliance with their hybrid policy. This was never raised as an issue throughout the process.

The coding test consisted of four tasks:

  • Three coding challenges on paper
  • One general problem-solving question

I successfully solved all three coding challenges (which the interviewers explicitly acknowledged), and after answering the general problem, I continued with the interview. In the middle of the session—definitely after the general question—I was told that I was doing well, which reinforced my confidence that my performance met their expectations.

However, just before I left, the interviewer suddenly reminded me that the job was based in Gothenburg. I once again reassured them—just as I had in the second interview—that I was fully willing and able to comply with their hybrid work policy.

The next day, I was rejected with the reasoning that I was "not mature enough in problem-solving." This directly contradicted the positive feedback I received during the test, especially considering I had successfully completed the coding challenges and at least partially solved the general problem. When I followed up for clarification, I received no meaningful response.

To ensure that location was not a deciding factor, I reached out to three team members after the rejection to reiterate that I was fully willing to work in Gothenburg as required. I was completely ghosted.

Overall, my experience was disappointing. If location was the real issue, Boeing should have been transparent about it instead of making me go through multiple interviews and long-distance travel only to reject me with vague justifications. The lack of honest feedback and communication left me with a very negative impression of their hiring process.
