Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

May 1, 2016
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process included:

  • A 2-hour HackerRank challenge.
  • A 1-hour technical phone interview.
  • A 1-hour coding session.
  • Four onsite video calls, two of which were face-to-face. These involved "what would you do in a situation" type questions.

Dealing with a manipulative recruiter was a major part of this experience. They bravely and cunningly tried to confuse me regarding my salary expectations, which I had expressed in an earlier call. They asked me to reconfirm by saying, "What did you say last time? It was [originally stated amount], right?"

After being rejected by someone in the fourth round because my approach to "what do I do in a situation like this" did not match their own, this recruiter did not even care to inform me, even after I followed up via two emails.

Don't waste your time if you are genuine enough not to spice up, glorify situational, attitude-related, or behavioral questions and try to misguide someone about yourself.
