Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

My overall experience was very poor.

I applied online with a referral and completed the CodeSignal assessment.

A few weeks later, a recruiter emailed to schedule the final round interview.

I had repeatedly informed the recruiter about a pending offer with a specific deadline and the need to complete the interview by then. The recruiter initially ghosted me and then later apologized, stating they had to reschedule for a new date. I agreed, even though I requested an earlier time due to my approaching deadline. The communication was very disorganized.

Regarding the interviews themselves:

  • The first interview was a case study, which is unusual and not standard practice elsewhere.
  • The second interview was behavioral, but the interviewer appeared to be reading from notes and asked very generic questions, making it feel less like a conversation.
  • The third interview presented a difficult technical question that I could not fully complete.

They did not provide feedback by my deadline, so I accepted the other offer. Capital One rejected me a full week later, though I would not have accepted their offer anyway.

I sincerely hope your organization is not as unprofessional and disorganized in its day-to-day operations with its employees.
