The entire team during my interview was extremely friendly and welcoming.

The process started with a short chat with the recruiter, followed up with a take-home coding test in Next.js.

After this, there was a code review with two members of the team, a chat about work culture and values, and finally a discussion on leadership and working style.

Pros: - Decent compensation, pays above average. - Interesting tech stack and investment in technology. Plenty of opportunity to learn and use the latest and greatest. - Challenging domain with plenty of interesting problems to solve.

Cons: - Getting very corporate lately and feels sluggish. Plenty of red tape. - Questionable decisions regarding people management recently. No transparency and honest communication in terms of C-level decisions. - No commitment to agile development anymore. Micro-waterfalls is now the model. - Micromanaging. Management will randomly pick things to solutionize on.

Pros: Very strong team – yet no arrogant attitude and always willing to support their colleagues. Inclusive and very open culture – a major effort is also put into the well-being of the employees. A lot of growing potential – for both company and individuals, who have very transparent career paths.

Cons: This probably doesn’t lay completely on Checkout’s side, as the company does put a lot of emphasis on inclusion and diversity. But I personally would really like to see more women in engineering.
