Process

I passed the technical. I aced it. They didn't like the behavioral, which they held twice.

The first manager didn't like me, of course. She told all her thoughts to the second manager, who ultimately screwed me as well. HR was great in that they were able to get me feedback about it.

What happened here is they asked a question: "Did you ever have conflict with anyone on the team?" I told a story about how there was an amicable disagreement with my manager. My manager ended up realizing I was correct, and the team ultimately went with my decision. My disagreement was, of course, told to my manager fully in private, and I ultimately saved my manager from total failure on the entire project due to their mistake.

Politically, the answer was bad. I was being asked this question by a manager herself. Typical, but ultimately, mediocre managers don't like to ever be told they are wrong, even in private. They spun up a story about how I was biased and unable to be fair and balanced (even though I specified several times that my manager ended up completely agreeing with me). They didn't hire me, even though I was very, very strong technically.

The story you want to tell here is one where you discovered you were wrong yourself. Don't tell a success story when asked this question; they aren't looking for that. They are looking for failure and how you learned from it. This is what I should've answered.

But the overall decision hinging so much on that answer, despite performing spectacularly everywhere else, ultimately also says something about the management at Chime. Keep this in mind when interviewing there: this is not an environment where people are openly unbiased. They are very biased and are against ever having anyone point out a mistake.

But if you're good at going with the flow, this place is likely a relatively easy company.

Every human has bias, and you can't just introduce an opposing opinion willy-nilly and expect no conflict. This is normal. What I am saying about Chime is that this bias is abnormal. They cannot take criticism in any shape or form.
