Pros
  • Brand name
  • Decent salary
  • Technical industry leader
  • Diverse workforce, including many younger people
Cons
  • Being an older worker means zero job security.
  • If your "supervisor" is half your age, they may not think you work very hard.
  • It's very performance-driven, unless the quotas are hidden from you.
  • If stock is not performing up to snuff, there will be mass contractor layoffs.
  • Management gives you zero feedback sessions, even when you ask.
  • It's VERY important to fit in, as this will determine your job security.
  • Red badges, i.e. contractors, are extremely expendable.
  • They will hire younger workers with non-relevant, non-tech degrees; for example, interior design. I'm not sure how that relates to being a TAC engineer.
  • I loved working there until I took my African American wife (I am white) to a company picnic, then suddenly I became a "problem worker."
  • Contractors have zero HR nor Equal Opportunity protections.
Advice to Management
  • Start looking into age discrimination protection for older workers.
  • Allow contractors the same legal protections as permanent party personnel.
  • Conduct mandatory monthly performance reviews of contractors, document reviews, and share written feedback with those you review.
  • If there are performance quotas/metrics, publicly acknowledge them.
