If your work doesn't involve anything to do with networking, you're wasting your time here (I don't blame the company for this).
Vendors seem to have more control over the code and work in general than the full-time employees, and everyone seems comfortable with that.
Cut down vendors. Let the FTEs have more ownership, not just of the product, but of the code too.
