Senior Backend Engineer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

Process

The best way to describe the interview process is "lethargic." It was slow, often asking for my availability in the next few days only to, after I provided it, hear back, "How about the week after, instead?" In the end, it was about six weeks from when they first reached out to me until the date of the on-site interview.

As if that wasn't bad enough, my on-site visit was abruptly cut short. Apparently, interviewing with three people and having lunch with a few more was enough for them to determine that I "wasn't a fit" and didn't need to continue with the remaining three interviews.

I was taken aback, to be honest (and, I think, so was my next interviewer). I've heard of companies doing this and always thought it was a terrible way to treat people. I believe in giving everyone a chance to meet (without being biased by earlier interviewers) in order to reduce the likelihood of false positives/negatives. Obviously, Coinbase has a different philosophy.
