Process

I received a call from a recruiter in response to my application. She explained the process and informed me that the first step is to complete a TripleByte online challenge. She asked me to email her once I finished it.

I took the TripleByte challenge and was surprised that almost 50% of the questions covered topics unrelated to the skills listed on my resume. I essentially guessed my way through those questions.

I gathered that Coinbase does not carefully read the resumes it receives. Instead, it uses TripleByte as a filtering mechanism for candidates. Basically, candidates are expected to spend 45 minutes of their valuable time so that Coinbase doesn't need to read their resumes.

My advice is to ask Coinbase recruiters if they can identify all the required skills on your resume during your conversation. Don't sacrifice your 45 minutes unless you are convinced that your skills align with their needs.

Questions

TripleByte online challenge with 50% questions irrelevant to my background and domain.

TripleByte challenges are basically a replacement for reading the candidate's resume.

This can lead to a loss of time for the candidate if there is not enough overlap of skills needed.
