I had a two-phase interview, but unfortunately, I ended without an offer. It was a good experience, though.
Phase 1:
Phase 2: Meeting with Tech Recruiter (1 hour): System Design: You don't need specific tips; just use your previous experience and technical background. You need to show your decision-making process.
Live coding (2 hours): They said this would be harder than the previous ones, but for me, the problems were easier. The only tip here is: MAKE IT SIMPLE. DON'T OVERTHINK. I was literally thinking there was a trap or that the question was not what it seemed. Stress can ruin your interview, so just start with a simple answer and clarify the problem before you begin writing anything.
Talking with a Staff Engineer (1 hour): This was the most exciting part for me because you have freedom.
Overall, the interviews at Datadog are about how you handle stress. Otherwise, they are easy to get through, and the people are nice; they will help you.
BFS + Strings
System Design: Streaming Service
Story Problem:
You have a list of strings, each in the format command:data. You need to filter the array based on the command and display the corresponding data.
If there are 10 pieces of data with the same command, print the indexes of each data entry. (This was clarified in the last 10 minutes).
Second Problem: Buffer Class
A BufferClass takes a size and an interface with a write method. Depending on the size, you need to write and flush every time you reach the limit.
Solution: Use a recursive call with the remaining size and keep track of the last index.
