Process

I applied through the college career fair. The recruiter was interested and looked through my resume. I received a HackerRank coding challenge on Depth First Search. It was a good coding experience. HackerRank provided me with quite the learning experience.

Dropbox Work Experiences

Good, supportive culture. (Also, my first job and therefore only data point, so, grain of salt.)

Software Engineer • Current Employee

Seattle, Washington, United States

Pros: - I have never had trouble maintaining my work/life balance. - I have been encouraged to take my time learning things well, even when it wouldn't immediately benefit my team. - Has a respectable engineering review process for building new systems, so they are seldom totally harebrained (though they've overhauled this process a couple of times, so this might be out of date).

Cons: - Frequent re-orgs make it hard to know who's in charge of what. - Leans heavily towards building its own systems rather than purchasing them or using OSS. - High-level "company goals"-type communications tend to sound completely meaningless to me.

Not very parent friendly

Software Engineer • Current Employee

Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States

Pros: - Pays well - Remote-first policies and culture - Decent culture, depending on what team you're working on

Cons: - Recently cut parental leave, particularly for non-birthing parents. - There seem to be perpetual reorganizations; for example, I know someone who has had four different managers in the span of a year. - Cut company PTO days. - Messaging around parental benefit cuts has been pretty tone-deaf and corporate-speaky.
