Software Developer Interview Experience - Berlin, Germany

Process

I was being interviewed for a Software Developer position in the Berlin office.

I initially applied for a Quality Engineer role, but during the hiring process, they let me try myself for the developer role too. Thus, I had an additional call with one of the senior developers.

Overall, there were two calls with engineers (around 45 minutes each), covering testing-related questions, API design, and basic technical questions. This was followed by a coding puzzle and an on-site interview, which took the whole day.

The on-site interview was structured as a “Sprint in a Day”:

  • A session with a product manager and a developer where you’re expected to plan the work (create user stories) based on given requirements.
  • Pair programming where you develop the product with one of the senior developers based on the created stories.
  • A short demo and a “soft skills” interview.

Since I was being interviewed for a cross-functional team, I also had a testing session with one of the Quality Engineers.

Everything was very well structured, and it felt more like a joint work on a product rather than an interview. The team was very professional, and overall, it was a positive experience.
