Process

Attended a job fair and dropped my resume. They called me in a week for an interview session.

Asked me to implement Sudoku. Asked me several data structure questions. Asked me the difference between an abstract class and an interface. A brain teaser: I have 25 horses and want to find the fastest amongst them. The constraint is that I do not have any time-measuring device. I am given a circular racecourse wherein a maximum of 5 horses can run in parallel at any given instance of time. How will you find the fastest one?

Pros: Good benefits that I miss now that I joined a crappy startup. Well-defined tasks, and it is kind of luck dependent on the manager and team.

Cons: High dependence on the manager, with no process in place to protect employees.

Pros: A very high-end, corporate, and very competitive environment. In order to succeed, eBay invests a lot in its workforce. This is very noticeable, from work-life balance to tuition reimbursement and so on. eBay certainly knows how to pamper its workers well!

Cons: It is a very big and global organization, but I think a lot is being done to mitigate the physical distance.

eBay Interview Questions

Partition Equal Subset Sum

Determine if a given array of numbers can be divided into two subsets with equal sums. Essentially, can you split the array so both sides add up to the same value?

Dynamic Programming

Remove One Element to Make the Array Strictly Increasing

Determine if removing a single element from an array can make the remaining elements strictly increasing. You need to check if it's possible to obtain a strictly increasing sequence by deleting at most one element.

LRU Cache

Design a data structure that acts as a Least Recently Used (LRU) cache. Implement methods to get and put key-value pairs, evicting the least recently used entry when the cache is full.
