Great benefits, but the work environment is toxic

Pros

Salaries are quite good for the game industry, and benefits are some of the best amongst engineering jobs anywhere.

Cons

Excessive layers of management. Management lies to you about job performance. Promotions are not given for merit, rather on how friendly you are with the jocks there (the production team). It's just like high school.

Furthermore, their recruiters are some of the most unprofessional and rude people I've dealt with in my career.

Advice to Management

Fire every manager, including most of the development managers. Keep the senior engineers and everyone from SE 2 up. Gender equality would be nice. EA bends over backwards for women, since there are so few of them at the company. I've seen completely incompetent women programmers get promoted to SE 3 or Development Director, whereas a male programmer of the same aptitude would be a perpetual SE 1.
