Pros: At least when I started, Epic has the habit of throwing its employees directly into the fire. This kind of direct experience is invaluable for learning quickly and effectively. The general practices that Epic fosters in its employees are valued at any institution:
* Organization
* Ownership
* Escalation
* Clear communication
Cons: Especially in the first year, working at Epic can be extremely stressful. I had a few months working around 90-hour weeks. The quality of managers is very spotty; some are excellent, some seem little more than amateurs.

Pros: Privately owned allows for long-term thinking.
Improving healthcare.
Very smart colleagues.
Relaxed culture about everything except getting work done.
Cons: Not a 40-hour week job, nor particularly family-friendly.
The eccentricities of the CEO lead to some odd policies. (This could also be a pro, as some policies, like trying to get everyone their own office, are great).
The obsession with how bad soda is can be annoying, especially considering the tons of sugar being served daily.
