Pros: As interns, we're rather spoiled. They give us all the interesting projects that the full-time developers don't have time to do. Interns aren't allowed to program in Cache; most were in mobile development, web development, or analytics. I have an office with a beautiful view, and they organize social events for the interns. In 2013, the interns were given housing at the Regent Apartments, and a private bus ran from the apartment building to Epic for the first few weeks. After that, there were plenty of carpools, and many people biked or rode the city bus to work.

Cons: Many of the intern projects were very exploratory. Many of the interns enjoyed the amount of design required by those projects, but others were concerned that their projects might not be feasible to incorporate into the larger code base. My project was very practical and integrated, though. The projects that turned out well will be bragged about at Epic's Users Group Meeting this fall.

Pros: Good learning experience. Awesome people. Brand name.

Cons: Too much work. Rigorous domain training. Old technology.

Pros: Epic truly tries to do the right thing for its customers, even if it's costly to Epic. There really are more important things to Epic than making as much money as it can. Epic's sense of whimsy and fun sets it apart from other places I've worked. Epic has a sense of humor: it shines in its choice of art, its decoration, and its large group events. It is a very rare experience for me to be in a meeting and be thinking that the meeting is a waste of time. Occasionally I think I don't need to be present, but the meeting itself is worthwhile.

Cons: Especially for technical services (TS), I think Epic could do a better job of trying to keep them happy and retain their services. TS is a difficult job, and it takes a specific kind of person to do it well over a long period of time.
