Pros: Good pay, good health insurance, and I got a lot of creative freedom over my projects. Most of the people there are very kind and smart. Working here will help you grow your professional skills quickly.

Cons: Management is very metric-driven, so you will get grilled if they think you are spending too long on a project, even when that is largely out of your control. The work-life balance is not great (but for software devs, not too bad) – they will constantly push you to work more hours. It's easy to get burned out, as many others have mentioned. Upper management seemed quite out of touch.

Pros: Interesting problems, coworkers are generally excellent, and the campus is beautiful. Compensation is good for the area. The sabbatical program is unique. The work is meaningful.

Cons: Management is stubborn and refuses categorically to listen to employee concerns. This has become more evident lately, especially with regards to the COVID-19 response. Despite being a healthcare company, Epic insists that employees return to the office in August without giving good reasons to justify the decision. Communication from leadership is often tone-deaf and demotivating. Employee satisfaction is a non-concern. Stock options are awful. Vacation policy is stingy, with only seven and a half paid holidays to supplement.

Pros: Made software that will help doctors do their job better. Learned mobile development. Epic has a really cool campus, and the food is awesome. I had my own office – with a door and a huge whiteboard. I was largely responsible for myself; I got my work done, and people didn't question how I spent my time, which offered lots of freedom. Beautiful campus. Epic is doing something really great for healthcare. My boss and his boss (also my boss) were and are great.

Cons: Epic 360 (they had us sit in on a lot of new hire classes). Some of them were awesome, like the tech talks. But there was this week of Epic 360. It was like half-day classes where they taught us about how people use their healthcare software. It wasn't detailed enough to be all that useful, but it was detailed to the point of taking a week's worth of classes. Most interns agree it was a huge waste. I admit, I ended up sleeping through a lot of it. The work can get overwhelming. It's pretty much: get as much done as you can get done. Which, when you're an overachiever, can be really taxing. You feel like you're never working hard enough, but you're actually working harder than you're used to.
