Pros: - Do meaningful work with a supportive team - Gorgeous campus - Great food - Great pay for an inexpensive place to live

Cons: Very poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in ways that make it hard for me to trust what management will do in a future crisis, including but not limited to: * Being slow to initially offer work-from-home, and just as slow to offer extensions of it (often demanding employee outcry and/or bad press before they do). * Constantly pushing for a return to campus en masse. * Minimal attempts to convince us that our "culture" of in-person work is worth literally risking our health for. * Suppression of any dissent on our internal forums, such as redacting questions on our internal Stack Overflow-esque site.

Pros: If you're a smart, hard-working go-getter, in it for yourself, and mind your own business, you can do very well here. They pay very well, and you can learn a lot about healthcare.

Cons: You are treated as a cog in a machine. They keep you as long as you are useful, and when you cease to be useful, they get rid of you. There are a lot of politics: If you cross someone in power, they will make your life miserable to push you out. You are always on call and leadership has very little training in terms of leading and building teams. As far as "Diversity and Inclusion" -- they are diverse only in the ways which suit them. Also, the technical skills I learned here did not translate well to the wider world of development outside of healthcare. The things they are doing are either unique to healthcare or wildly outdated.

Pros: You will meet a few incredibly talented and wonderful people on your team or elsewhere. The food is pretty good.

Cons: The Covid response has been pretty bad. You can read all the other reviews on how bad it has been, but I want to call out a different aspect which might become more important as everyone is forced back onto campus. If you get sick with Covid-19, Epic will do the bare minimum about it. The bare minimum is following through with contact tracing, and that's it. Extra sick time? Nope. Ok, well at least less pressure from job responsibilities as you recover? Nope, get back to work; use your weekends to catch up! At least have some transparency about the number of employees catching the disease? Nope. There was only ever one communication about a single person catching Covid-19 back in March. I caught it later than that, and I'm pretty sure others have too. But Epic hasn't been releasing such information since they want to force everyone back on campus. This is the end result which everyone gets to look forward to once September rolls around. I hope you're all prepared. Covid-19 is not fun. I would not recommend anyone else catch it. The symptoms change so quickly that you will always have the fear that you will end up in the hospital. I couldn't think about what to do if I had a family. And guess what? I still felt so guilty about the work I was missing out on that I still attended virtual meetings while I was sick. People could hear me coughing. That's the psychological hold that this company has on you. This pandemic period has been miserable for everyone, but Epic doesn't care. You're a Covid cog, whether you've caught it or are about to catch it.
