Senior SRE Interview Experience - United States

Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

  • Asked to take a call at 9 PM local time.

  • Technical aptitude test was given by a Director that can't speak English properly, leading to miscommunications.

    • Did you mean "exec" or "exit"?
    • Of course, the candidate is always the one to take the blame, right? ;-)
  • Halfway through the interview, I received great feedback: "wow, I've never seen someone get this question right so fast."

  • The next day, I found out I was denied. Zero feedback. What a joke. This place clearly isn't capable of filtering for those with talent.

Questions

They basically shoe you into SSH'ing to lon1.tmate.io, which is hardly representative of a real terminal window.

The terminal lags like crazy, resulting in typos, wasted time, and lost focus. Meanwhile, you're trying to understand what this person is asking you to do, with their heavy accent.

You also can't scroll in the terminal. The interviewer forced candidates into using less because their test environment doesn't support basic capabilities of modern terminals.
