I applied online.
Major red flags. I previously interviewed with the company and was ultimately ghosted despite progressing through the interview rounds. I applied again later, and the new recruiter was unable to locate my previous application or interview history. After a brief conversation, I was asked about my salary expectations. I provided a range based on the compensation listed for the position and explained that the top of the posted range would still represent a significant pay cut from my current compensation. The recruiter's response was particularly concerning. I was told, essentially, that they could "get someone in Missouri for $140K." I found this response unnecessarily dismissive and unprofessional. If the company is prioritizing hiring in lower-cost markets for remote positions, that's their prerogative. However, that should be communicated upfront rather than spending candidates' time going through an interview process only to make it clear that their location makes them too expensive. I also know for a fact that they do hire plenty of engineers that are LA based, so this seemed more of an unprofessional personal response. Overall, the experience left a very negative impression of the recruiting process and how candidates' time and compensation expectations are handled.
