New management is terrible in the betting and gaming division. The old manager was wonderful but was fired so an engineer who wasn't doing their job could step into a management role instead. There seems to be a culture of how to always get ahead rather than excel in your own role.
Managers play favorites and constantly bring in unplanned work items in the middle or end of a sprint and then say you're not meeting deadlines if you don't get them done on top of your committed work. Management sucks up to the director and gives unrealistic promises to them, then throws engineers under the bus for their poor management if something outside of the engineer's control goes wrong. The manager also misaligns core values with the preached values from the CEO and the company.
I was told to take time back if working after hours for on-call and not go to meetings we never contribute to from the CEO, but then the low-level manager says the exact opposite and that we have to attend all meetings and does not care about taking time back. There is a ton of unrelated engineering work too.
The on-call for mobile engineers is a complete mess. You get called as the first line of defense at all hours of the night for misconfigured dashboards and for problems that are purely backend or upstream and do not affect the client.
Don't suck up to your director, and protect the actual people you manage by setting them up for success and guiding them if and when they fall short.
Terrible candidate experience. Had a call with the recruiter, then scheduled the tech screen. The morning of the tech screen, I got an email saying that it was moved by a couple hours. I couldn't make the new time and asked to reschedule. The recruit
Got shortlisted after the first round. The second was technical. Coding questions and SQL questions were asked. I was also asked about my favorite subject and to rate how much I know them.
Initial 45-min coding screen, followed by a virtual onsite with 3 rounds. Two were behavioral and intended to cover different perspectives on my skillset, but they ended up feeling like the same type of general behavioral interview. One was systems d
