Pros
  • Inclusive culture
  • Beautiful campuses
  • Values employees (they were willing to locate and provide accommodations for Texas associates and their families who lost power/water when the state froze over for a week)
Cons
  • One size fits all mentality for computers (one of two reasons for the missing star).
  • Lack of understanding the needs of test environments in agile development (one of two reasons for the missing star).
  • Communication between “tribes”/products.
Advice to Management
  1. Developer/SDET laptops should have better specs. 16GB with a low to mid-tier i5 should not be considered adequate.

  2. There needs to be more than one test environment capable of end-to-end testing. When a release is being tested in a shared environment, issues that bring down the environment and are not due to the code being tested should be treated half a step lower than a production outage.

If these two items are fixed, then it would be nearly impossible for me to see a reason to seek employment outside of Fidelity. My overall rating would go to 5 stars, and I would definitely recommend Fidelity as a place to work. Right now, if it is a QA or Dev position, my recommendation is partially good, partially bad. Had I been able to trust my new management chain at my previous employer, the bad specs of the laptops provided for developers/SDETs/QAs would have been a dealbreaker.
