Pros

The pay was good for a new developer.

Cons

The company outgrew its facility years ago, leading to cramped work conditions. It feels like a sweatshop.

While my job title was Sr. .NET Developer, I was only writing XML scripts, with no .NET development at all. They actually had a few people move from across the country with the promise of being a .NET developer, but once they arrived, they were told their job responsibilities would not involve any software development.

The problems with the company are systemic. The people there treat juniors like they are less than people, while when senior-level personnel walk into the room, they literally change the way they sit to appear more attentive. Feedback from juniors is treated like an insult.

Advice to Management

All of your processes and systems need to be reviewed for efficiencies, especially your onboarding and software security.

The "#2 insurance company in America" should feel like a Chinese iPhone sweatshop.

Spend some money on a new facility or allow more people to work remotely. Stop making excuses about why you can't when it's hard and figure out a way to be as good as your commercials say you are. You're just one complaint away from scandal.
