I also feel GE encourages its employees, interns included, to take ownership of their work and strive to do well.
It's a large company, so naturally it has more inertia (resistance to change) and it can be slower to achieve things. During my 13-month placement with GE, I had to arrange payment to a supplier, and that took 2.5 weeks to complete because the purchase order was passed around the world.
This is probably the case with all big companies, though.
