Senior Java Developer Interview Experience - United States

Process

Applied online and it hardly took a couple of business days to get a call from HR. I was asked routine questions like if I was willing to relocate, why I was looking for a change, what I was earning at my current job, etc., and finally what I was expecting. They said what I requested was in the pay range and arranged a telephonic interview.

I received this call, and before the interviewer got technical, he explained what he was looking for in the potential hire.

In the technical round, I was asked all sorts of questions, starting from basic to architect level. I was not very sure why I was asked architect/lead level questions for a "Senior Developer" position. I thought maybe he was just trying to know me or something, but it turned out the HR had submitted me for a Lead position without my knowledge.

It would have been better on HR's part to submit me for the position I applied for, and this seems more intentional than accidental for reasons I can suspect.
