Process

A recruiter contacted me half a year ago, and I'm finally ready to apply. They conducted a phone interview, followed by another two to three weeks later. I have an onsite interview in a few days.

Phone Interview 1:

  • What is a virtual function?
  • What is the benefit of inheritance?
  • What is the advantage of an interface in Java?
  • Write a program to reverse a linked list.
  • Write a program to find the intersection of two sets and test your program.

Phone Interview 2:

  • How to get k random samples from a large file of query keywords?
    • Hint: Partition the file into n chunks. Load a chunk into main memory.
  • How to design a search engine? If each document contains a set of keywords and is associated with a numeric attribute, how would you build indices?
    • Hint: Use an inverted list and a B+tree.
