Process

I applied for an SW Intern position (including various locations) and received a response within a week. I first completed a coding test with one easy and one hard (dynamic programming) question.

Then, I moved on to the first interview. It was an algorithmic and data structure interview. As it was my first interview ever, and at Google, I was a little nervous.

I mentioned this to the recruiter, who likely relayed it to my interviewer. My interviewer was very polite and ensured I was comfortable.

The questions weren't as hard as I had feared, as I had prepared decently (though perhaps not enough).

A little piece of advice: When practicing algorithms, make sure you also practice speaking your thoughts out loud. We generally do this internally, but in an interview, it feels like extra work and can be distracting when you're trying your best to concentrate on solving the problem.

So, practice speaking what you are thinking.

Unfortunately, I received a rejection phone call within a week after the first interview. They advised me to reapply when I graduate.

They also gave me access to Google Student Learning Programs, which included explanations for all the algorithms and data structures. This made me very happy.

Questions

First: Basic algorithm question (but a little tricky)

Second: Medium array question
