Perks and benefits galore.
Google has incredible health plans, retirement plans, and paternity leave.
Coworkers are extremely bright.
Lots of fun facilities.
I prefer the flat corporate structure.
Google has an enormous codebase. Lots of jobs are just doing maintenance to keep your service up with the many internal monolithic tools that are constantly being deprecated.
Solutions tend to be overwrought in order to "demonstrate complexity" for promotion committees.
So much competition when you are basically a cog can be discouraging. Many coworkers work in evenings and weekends. There is no 20% time. It is really difficult to get promoted when there are very few open slots.
More emphasis on YAGNI principles and less on complexity.
I was contacted by a recruiter, with whom I scheduled a phone screen. After the phone screen, I heard back and was transferred to someone who worked specifically on the hiring process after recruiting. Then, an onsite interview was scheduled at the
Standard interview loop for big tech. There was a remote round and then several in-person rounds. LeetCode type with one system design and one behavioral. No major surprises. The only distinguishing thing is that their process is very slow.
The interview was amazing, but I had a misunderstanding with the interviewer. I tried to communicate with her, but I think I embarrassed myself. Overall, I got a rejection after the interview :( I hope I will get an offer next year!!!
