Process

Today, I have an interview meeting with Grabtaxi Vietnam. It's a really funny story.

The interviewee's role is Engineer Owner.

He was too proud of himself, and the meeting felt like a beatdown show for him to show off. He did not listen and always tried to beat me down. He never accepted my answers; even when my answer had the same meaning but was phrased differently from his explanation, he always said, "You're 8 years experienced, but... bla bla." I don't know how many times he said that. Of course, I became upset, but I remained calm, looking forward to gaining some advanced knowledge from him, but there was nothing new.

After spending more than an hour, what really disappointed me and made me give up was this:

He gave me a simple question: "Design the database and write an SQL script to extract all items that have been placed in at least 2 orders."

My answer was to create three tables: Item (item_id, name), Order (order_id, name), and Item_Order (item_id, order_id). My SQL script was:

sql select a.item_id, a.name from Item a join Item_Order b on a.item_id = b.item_id group by a.item_id having count(b.order_id) >= 2;

After I finished, he rejected it and said, "You're wrong. I had 5 years at Lazada just working with SQL. You have to group by order_id instead of item_id. If I am wrong, I will resign from Grab immediately."

I tried many times to explain to him, and finally, he understood. This was the first time he accepted that he was wrong, but it was also the last, because I gave up. I couldn't continue that useless meeting and waste more time. I think he should keep his promise because he not only disrespected a candidate who spent time visiting Grab but also disrespected Grab company. That's why he made that bet so easily and lost (shame on him). Haha. By the way, I don't think he is expert or professional enough to represent Grab.

Questions

You have Item and Order. Let's design the DB and then write SQL to extract all Items which have been placed in >= 2 Orders.
