Process

The process comprised eight separate one-on-one interviews with employees in various roles at GrubHub, ranging from senior management to software engineers.

  • Phone with Recruiter x 2
  • Phone with Software engineer
  • Onsite
    • Software engineer x2
    • Software eng lead
    • QA Lead
    • Director
  • Phone with Recruiter & Offer 2 days later

At this point, I had interviewed with lots of software companies in NYC, and I honestly thought the process was one of the best. There's a fine balance between the intensity of software engineering interviews and being interpersonal.

  • One-on-one interviews, instead of two-on-one, which can be more difficult for the candidate because of the ability to build rapport and energy (feels like an interrogation).
  • Whiteboard and live coding were actually enjoyable, whereas most of the time can be very painful and stressful.
  • The start time was somewhat after lunch, from 1 PM to 6 PM, which gives time to prepare and does not include the 'lunch interview'.
