Process

The whole interview process lasted almost a month. First, I received a call from HR to confirm my application and was then explained about the interview process. The interview was basically divided into three stages: a remote coding challenge, a technical phone interview, and then three face-to-face interviews at their office.

The coding challenge consisted of questions from Java collections, JDBC, JMS, and one code optimization question. I was informed about the result within three days and was asked to schedule a date and time for a phone interview, which would last 45-60 minutes.

The phone interview covered questions on Java, databases, XML, design patterns, n-tier architecture, web services, SDLC, and a few behavioral questions. They provided the result again within two to three days and asked me to schedule a date and time for the three face-to-face interviews.

The on-site interviews were very difficult; everything you claim to know would be tested.

  • The first of the three interviews was with a hiring manager. He eased me into the interview process by talking generally and then in-depth about my CV. I was then asked to explain one of my previous projects on the whiteboard and to solve some database queries.
  • The next interview was purely technical from the start. I was asked to write a database query, explain some code they had on paper, and then code a given problem on the whiteboard.
  • The final interview was more of a cultural fit interview. The interviewer asked general questions to check if I would be a good fit for their organization. He even demonstrated one of their products and I was given a chance to ask questions regarding it and the organization. Finally, I was asked to code on the whiteboard one last time.

All the interviewers were very friendly and made me feel comfortable answering their questions. They would suggest alternative solutions or approaches if they thought I was going wrong anywhere.

An HR representative then met with me after the final round and discussed my overall interview experience for the day. I was told they would discuss my performance with the interviewers and get back to me soon.

I received a call after three days informing me that they liked my overall performance and would like to extend an offer. I accepted the offer.

The overall process was very grueling and difficult, but I understand it's required because they want people who can handle their complex code at work.

Questions

I signed an NDA, so I wouldn't be able to disclose anything. The questions were something that anyone who knows Java at a graduate level could answer easily.
