I was looking for an onsite opportunity and applying for jobs in Canada. I applied for the above position and received an HR email for a first HR screening. I booked an available slot from her calendar, which was July 5th, a holiday in the US. I waited for her to join the call for 20 minutes, even sending her an email to inquire if she was joining, but she did not show up. I even wondered if everything was alright on her side during the pandemic. I was unaware that it was a holiday in the US and that she lived there.
After the scheduled time, I received a reply from her stating that they were looking for candidates in Canada, without a single apology. I did reply to her about this unprofessional behavior. Instead of receiving an apology, she tried to justify her behavior, saying it was a holiday and that I had still scheduled the call.
I don't understand how people are trained like this. I simply wanted to ensure I passed on feedback regarding the process and to make the candidate experience good, as it affects the company's reputation. I wonder how large companies can have processes like this.
I hope no other candidates suffer further.
No interview happened; it was a phone screening which HR did not attend.
