Slow process, disorganized recruiters and panel, no meaningful feedback on why I was not a match. The interview didn't seem challenging but also just wasn't well run. The office vibe is kind of weird with a fake/unenforced no shoes thing and giant warehouse space. I liked some of the people I talked to, but others just seemed kind of detached and uninterested.

Pros: - Well-curated workspaces.
- Smooth onboarding.
- Long-tenured engineers seem to enjoy a lot of comfort.
- It is easy to get help on some topics.
Cons: - Rhetoric does not match reality.
- "Beware 'Gusto nice'" was the best advice I got.
- Internal support is inconsistent.
- There is a strong but hidden undercurrent of "everyone for themself".
- People seem prone to underdisclosure to maintain advantage.

Great Team, Long Hours

Pros: I've worked at a handful of other companies ranging from pretty small to really big, and ZenPayroll really stands out as the place I've best been able to grow professionally and truly enjoy the experience. Who I work with can really make or break things, and I feel really lucky to get to work with and learn from such smart, collaborative, and caring people.
Cons: The hours are definitely longer than at other places I've worked, but we are a startup after all, and it's rewarding work.

Pros: Mostly agreeable people work here.
It's not a rise and grind culture, and there's a consistent paycheck.
Cons: Exec leadership turnover is concerning. They say it's normal, but not normal at the other unicorns I have worked at. Engineering and Product execs have had 100% turnover in 2 years.
