The interview process at ZenPayroll was quite seamless at the beginning. I applied online and had an email conversation, which was followed by two phone screens (one casual, one technical).
They then sent me a coding challenge to demonstrate my coding abilities. This is where the interview fell apart.
At the time, I had basically two full-time jobs: freelancing and finding a new job. I was busy every hour of every day working on interviewing with various companies, and the coding challenge they sent over was so large in scope that I did not have the time to complete it fully (I had spent roughly five hours on it).
I sent over what I had and tried to explain my situation, but was responded to with an email that stated, "When seriously applying for a job, you should make time to prepare for and complete the assignment." That's word for word what was said to me.
They showed no respect for my time, nor did they have enough respect to send an empathetic email. I was beyond disappointed, as our recent conversations had been great, and ZenPayroll seemed like a wonderful place to work.
As this seems to be the most common complaint for every interview here, I truly hope the folks at ZenPayroll can fix this issue and show a little more respect for individuals' time when applying.
