Software Engineer Interview Experience - Denver, Colorado

Process

I was recommended to the job by a current employee. This led to an email exchange, followed by an in-person coffee meeting with a senior engineering lead as an initial screening.

From there, I submitted a resume and had a 30-minute, remote, technical screen with a different software engineering lead.

After moving to the next stage, I was contacted by a representative from HR to confirm some non-technical information and then informed about a 4-hour remote interview block. This involved a "culture" interview conversation with an engineering lead, followed by an architecture interview with a senior software engineer, and then a 2-hour half-solo/half-paired coding assignment where I built a small application.

After that, I had a follow-up call with HR, which was closely followed by an offer phone call and paperwork.

Questions

The initial technical screen was an OOP vending machine problem. Code a vending machine that needs to track inventory and return correct change in denominations of 5, 10, and 25 cents.
