I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks.
I recently went through the hiring process for a Senior Frontend Engineer role and was given a take-home assignment with a 6-hour completion window. While I appreciated the opportunity, I found the expectations to be somewhat unrealistic considering the limited time provided.
Naturally, in such a short timeframe, minor bugs or unpolished areas can occur—especially since no design guidelines or UI specifications were provided, meaning all design decisions had to be made from scratch.
After submitting the assignment, I was informed that the decision not to move forward was due to bugs, unpolished elements, and insufficient depth in technical trade-off explanations.
While I respect the company's decision, I believe it’s important to highlight that expecting fully polished output, detailed architectural analysis, and comprehensive trade-off documentation within a strict 6-hour window does not align well with practical engineering workflows.
Overall, the communication throughout the process was polite, but the evaluation criteria felt mismatched with the constraints of the task. I hope the company revisits the expectations around timed take-home assignments to ensure a fairer and more realistic assessment experience for future candidates.
