Pros
  • Paycheck on time,
  • teammates,
  • status calls around noon.
Cons
  • Micromanagement or even macromanagement.
  • Many calls where you are called in without context or agenda.
  • Many "politics." If you want to work here, good advice is to have screenshots, emails, or whatever evidence for anything you work on.
  • I was hired as a software developer, but 80% of the time I was working as a QA engineer, doing automated, performance, or manual testing because the entire QA team was fired about 1.5 years ago.
  • Ridiculous rule of 5-10 minutes being "yellow status" on our communicator. After that, you are checked. If you don’t reply almost immediately, that means you work for free that day. Basically, you need to reply to everything and to everyone by communicator or email immediately, so there is no time for focused work.
  • You need to be friendly with context switching. Because of micromanagement and having multiple managers, you can end up starting work on 5 different tasks on the same day. You will be asked multiple times that day how it’s going and how much time you will need.
  • Meetings where you need to demo tasks that you started the same day in the morning because they were scheduled without asking you or even without your consent. So, you can be called in during the day and be asked to show your progress at a random time during the day, sometimes even on tasks you haven’t yet started and are in "to do" status
Advice to Management

Don't be a drudge for higher management. Don't be afraid to speak up when you and the team don't agree with decisions; they are also humans, not gods.

Also, we are all grownups. You don't have to call every hour asking how task X is going. Developers know what they are doing and what they have to do. You don't have to check if we are by the desk constantly for 8 hours straight. We are humans; we are going to toilets, having breakfast/lunch, etc., or just need a break and clear minds to work more efficiently.
