Senior Software Engineer 1 Interview Experience - Boston, Massachusetts
Process
The interview process was very straightforward.
The recruiter I worked with provided excellent preparation tips for each round, including a clear idea of what questions to expect.
However, success ultimately depended on how well you connected with the interviewers and navigated their specific lines of questioning.
That said, the interviewers were friendly, approachable, and made the experience less intimidating.

HubSpot Work Experiences
- 2.0Good Code, Bad LeadershipSenior Software Engineer 1 • Current EmployeeMay 2, 2025Pros: Engineering culture centered around writing good code. Teams are usually positive.Cons: Leadership is afraid of its own shadow and is lashing out against its employees. Expect to be judged on secret quotas that they otherwise tell you don't exist. The number of PRs is how they judge productivity.
- 5.0Good company with great individualsSenior Software Engineer 1 • Current EmployeeApril 4, 2023Pros: You'll get to work with some amazing people in the industry. HubSpot's onboarding is uniquely great, and they really care about making you feel at home. The leadership team is always open to feedback from employees (be it positive or negative) and is willing to get better.Cons: There's been a lot of emphasis on working efficiently. This, combined with recent layoffs, is adding some pressure on individuals to perform better. But I guess that's everywhere in the present market.
- 3.0Good place to workSenior Software Engineer 1 • Current EmployeeLondon, England, United KingdomJune 18, 2025Pros: Good compensation, remote, mostly good teammates.Cons: Too much focus on PR numbers.
