I was reached by their internal recruiter. After a talk with the recruiter over the phone, I received a technical task to complete.
Nevertheless, the technical test was very enjoyable for me because it was a real-world case, apart from other technical tasks that I have done for other companies. It was related to what HubSpot does, not mainly, of course.
Even though I tried very hard to complete it, I failed in the end. However, I was asked to send the source code. They reviewed it and decided to invite me for a face-to-face meeting.
When I arrived, I was guided through the office to see what they have and how they work. Afterward, I was interviewed by two guys from the engineering side. Then, another two guys interviewed me from the database perspective, using a whiteboard as well. Later, I had a talk with a guy from their DevOps team located in Boston.
Unfortunately, the next day I received feedback that they would not proceed further with my application.
Anyway, a lot of companies do whiteboarding, and I perform very badly during those. I think that for a good solution to be crafted, it needs more time and focus. Additionally, stress introduces some confusion as well.
I would rather prepare some application which basically works and does something, instead of talking about it. It's very hard for me to focus when I do not see my favorite IDE. Anyway, maybe next time.
Questions around proposing database structure and queries against it.
