I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks.
The first screening was great. Then there is the take-home test. The problem is that this takes many hours, which in itself is fine, but you get no feedback. There is a lack of clarity which does not match the real world. I basically changed my scoreboard to match the actual RTL with the bugs, which is not ideal, as the model/scoreboard should be more abstract but printed bug conditions. It is not clear if I should have:
The next problem was the maximum 2 minutes. Here, I defined coverage as I would in the real world and left a note that more time would be needed to get higher coverage. I wonder if I should have had less coverage, but which I could get 100% in two minutes. I also had one long but very random testbench, which is the gold standard, but maybe they wanted lots of directed tests which would finish easily in two minutes.
I did not pass and have no idea why, as I felt all my decisions were defensible. So I would advise others to try different guesses and report back if positive.
