I have worked for IBM for 42 years. In those years, I have always been challenged, inspired, and involved with the best colleagues imaginable. I now work with people worldwide; my manager is in Singapore, while I am in the United States. I have learned so much culturally and educationally and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
You can't be shy or timid in a big company. The size can be daunting. You have to ask questions, become involved in discussions, and explore things. Don't feel afraid to speak up, offer suggestions, etc.
Keep focusing on communications.
Recruited at an on-campus job fair. Flown out to IBM Poughkeepsie to go through a full day of interviewing with at least 8 people. The interview was entirely behavioral, with general technical questions.
I was given a test that was kind of like an IQ test. It comprised many long word problems with a lot of information and only two minutes to solve.
My interviewer was a manager, and he was super friendly. We had a great conversation that felt more like a coffee chat than an interview. The questions were mostly about my past experiences and projects, with some behavioral questions included.
