Your career at IBM is completely in the hands of your manager.
Most of the managers are dumb people. These guys have been sitting in the company for years together without any skill update.
They are completely novice to the latest technologies, and they have no clue as to what his/her team is working on. I have seen many technical people quitting the company because of their managers.
IBM's revenue has been declining continuously for the past 5 years. It is high time that the company should look into retaining the real talent.

Interviews are normally very formal. Interview panels at IBM are technically very strong. I have been working with IBM for 12 years, so I can't speak much about the current interview process.
