No new opportunities. No hikes (even after 5 years of hard work and loyalty). No HR interaction. High managerial dependency. You are just a number.
Loyal and hardworking employees need hikes as well. Their salaries should at least reflect the market value of their skills, but in truth, their salaries are less than 60% of their market value. I know many such disappointed people in IBM India.
You cannot go ahead and look for new opportunities internally, no matter what you do. My manager in the last project I was a part of actually said it to the face of his team members: "You won't be released from the project. You can, however, quit working in the company."
In another incident, one of my colleagues actually had to fight with his manager to change the project so that he could add a new skill to his knowledge. He had to go to upper management and include them in this fight of values. Even then, as a final resort, he could only separate from the company in the end, frustratingly!
Trust me when I say this: even after working for 5 years in IBM, I am the least paid employee in my team of 25 members.
