If you are lucky, you will get to work with smart people and on exciting parts of a big software project. You learn to be self-initiative, and they will allow you to take the lead on an area even if you are an intern, due to teams not having enough people.
My team only had a few interns, so I did not get to network with the other interns that much. Some other interns complained they only had boring tasks, instead of getting assigned any real work.
