Pros

Some days you can't get any work done because you're too busy helping others or supporting customers, and that is not punished.

Insurance is decent if you spend the extra for the PPO plan. And don't add anyone but yourself to the plan.

Never had a problem with remote working. While people near the office were forced back in against their will, I was lucky enough to not be anywhere near any offices, so luckily was exempt from this farce of a policy.

Understanding of personal and family issues that can arise unexpectedly, and PTO given for everyone often enough to feel like an actual reward.

Lots of really good people to work with, as long as they aren't in management.

Cons

Oh boy. Pay is abysmal. My new job literally doubled my salary for the exact same job with much less responsibility and much better work/life balance.

Management is inept at best, and maliciously incompetent at worst. Skeleton crews are common. Any project that requires 6-8 people to maintain normally will have three people at best, or just one (such as my case).

A fetish for having contractors build things and FTEs maintain it afterward, which is literally the worst way to build software, especially when deadlines mean code reviews get tossed in order to deliver on time.

Realistic deadlines get scoffed at. Sure Bob, one person can perform major version changes to several systems in a single two-week sprint, while also doing support duty and 24/7 on-call for multiple teams around the world.

All my coworkers felt "captive" and constantly looking for a better job. Sure doesn't help to build teamwork.

Upper management is literally leeches patting themselves on the back and giving each other bonuses, even when their department utterly fails at every task. As long as they reduce headcount, they've won. Actual goals are irrelevant.

Behind the curve on literally everything technology-wise. Do not expect innovation to be rewarded. Sets the standard for "failing upward". Promotions are reserved specifically for those who are too incompetent to do their current job, so they can rain incompetence down upon their peers from above.

Catering to anti-vaccine idiots. There was a small but loud uproar over vaccine policy, and IBM literally enabled that small but loud group to drown out all discourse with conspiracy theories and easily debunked lies. Luckily, the most malicious of them were let go after they got too abusive over work chat, but all of those conspiracy theories should have been shot down as soon as they were reported.

Advice to Management

Quit your job. The only way anything ever gets done is when everyone ignores you.
